Beyond the Happy Clappy is the podcast about the past, present and future of charismatic renewal. Featuring a series of interviews with leading figures from the renewal that changed the UK church so profoundly from the 1960s onwards, Beyond the Happy Clappy will ask what lessons that recent history has for the life and mission of the church today. We’ll celebrate what was good, and also reflect on the problems and failures along the way.

Paul & Becky Harcourt | 8th November
Paul and Becky lead All Saints’ Woodford Wells in Chelmsford Diocese, and Paul was also National Leader of New Wine England from 2016-2023. They have been to many countries, teaching and training people to live life in the fullness of the Spirit. They have two adult children with special needs, which presents daily challenges but adds a richness to life that would otherwise be lacking – and this dimension of their family life is a focus in their interview.
Emmy Wilson | 15th November
Emmy Wilson spent 14 years training and practising as both a State Registered Nurse and a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse, culminating in 3 years nursing those affected by HIV and AIDS. Emmy ended her nursing career when the Lord dramatically changed her heart, prompting her to take the Gospel to those in society whose lifestyles made them most vulnerable to this disease. This resulted in her joining the staff of Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB), London, in 1985 to begin the work of ‘The Earl’s Court Project’ - a Christian ministry responding to AIDS, prostitution, drug addiction, alcoholism and homelessness. She was later ordained into Anglican ministry in the Church of Uganda.
Lucy Peppiatt | 22nd November
Lucy Peppiatt is the President of WTC, an interdenominational and charismatic theological college in the UK. She holds a PhD in Theology from the University of Otago, New Zealand. She writes and speaks on a wide range of issues in church and theology, including women in the Bible and charismatic theology. She is part of the team launching the new Society for Charismatic Studies.
