Charismatic History Project

Charting the history of renewal, and lessons learnt, to inform and encourage the church of today and tomorrow

Are you passionate about the church learning lessons from its recent history?

Do you have memories to share about your experience of renewal, in the period 1960-2000?

Would you like to be involved?

The period 1960 – 2000 was an exciting and formative time as charismatic renewal began to impact and change the church. Faith grew as we saw God move powerfully among us. Lessons were learnt and mistakes made. The scriptures remind us that remembering the past is important for the present. The Project seeks to record the history of charismatic renewal in this period in a way that informs and encourages the church of today and tomorrow.

We are seeking to do this in several ways and the attached Leaflet goes into greater detail including details of our Steering Group chaired by Bishop John Finney and Advisory Group chaired by Dr John Maiden of the Open University

We have begun by gathering together people’s memories and reflections through a series of Witness Seminars and Questionnaires and held our first consultation in September 2024. Later there will be Conferences and Publications.

We are holding 2 more Witness Seminars during the autumn of 2024. You can find out more and sign up to attend for free here.

We began monthly Witness Seminars in the autumn of 2023 and these are available on the ReSource YouTube Channel. They were chaired by Dr John Maiden.  Please click below if you would like to catch up or revisit any of these.

As part of developing an Archive, we are fortunate to have been given many Fountain Trust tapes, formerly in the library of St John’s College Nottingham. These are in the process of being digitised and a list of available tapes can be downloaded here.  If you would like access to a particular recording, please email office@resourcingrenewal.org and we will email you a download link.  Please note that this process is still ongoing, so the link will be emailed to you as soon as it is available.

Do you have old magazines, programmes from conferences, personal correspondence relating to charismatic renewal….? We would love to be able to include these in our growing Archive. Please be in touch with historyproject@resourcingrenewal.org with the details of what you have.

If you would like to learn more, or keep in touch with developments, please email historyproject@resourcingrenewal.org or call 01952 371300
